Ms. Goodwin and I have worked together for 4 years in my Kindergarten classroom, and it has been a pleasure. She is a wonderful, knowledgeable Literacy Coach who meets the scholars where they are -using data to guide her instruction! She encourages each child with a warm smile, up to date resources and latest information. She is reflective and gives feedback! She has an abundance of skills and strategies to implement with all scholars working at different levels with differentiated lessons to help all scholars succeed. She is well versed in Fundations -Wilson Academy, Heggerty Phonemic Awareness etc. Specifically, she has moved scholars from Fountas and Pinnell Reading Levels A through D in a short time by focusing in on: letters- letter-sound correspondence, blending and segmenting phonemes, onset, rime, decoding, CVC words, sight words, The National Reading Panel -5 Pillars of Literacy, etc. Ms. Goodwin uses Explicit Instruction with great intent! She understands the importance and value of time! Also, Ms. Goodwin has worked in small Guided Reading groups where she has taught students to use Literacy strategies (point and read, look at first sound, stretch out the word etc.); as well as develop their comprehension using Bloom's Hierarchy Questioning to develop scholars' higher order thinking abilities! Her action plan is simple and very effective:
Analyze the Data
Identify the trouble spots
Plan intentionally based on noticings
Reteach misconceptions
Retest scholars!
Ms. Goodwin has worked tirelessly with me as my ULIT Coach collaborating on: Instructional focus, Academic Recovery For All, Five Pillars of Literacy and Best Practices - she is an EDUCATOR!
Ms. Goodwin is a top-tier, skilled, zestful educator and leader. Her unwavering belief in all students and their ability to thrive is clear in her interactions with students, teachers, leaders and families. She leads with the utmost respect for, and consideration of, students’ emotional and academic well-being. She skillfully bridges the home-school connection by leading engaging socio-emotional and literacy workshops for educators and parents.
